Who is Amplifiers Plus?

WOW !!! 32 years as of spring 2023, repairing amplifiers. What a great milestone !
Amplifiers Plus is owned and operated by Rich Gowman. Rich is a resident of Cambridge, Ontario.
Rich is a trained electronics engineering technician, taking electronics all through high school, and then completing the technician course at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario. Rich has been in the repair service industry since 1982, and decided to open Amplifiers Plus in 1991.
As 2022 winds down, Rich will be contemplating retirement. He is hoping to sell the successful Amps Plus to another local successful repair business, and will move away from the area.
Rich is also a musician, starting with guitar at age 13, moving to bass guitar at age 17, and then back to guitar at age 20. He has been in several small local bands since that time, concentrating for a while on writing for an independent music project, and then in 1994, starting and playing with a Texas-blues based trio in Cambridge. Rich is now playing bass guitar and singing, as Sting, in a tribute band to The Police, called The Outlandos.
Rich is also happily married to Shelley, and has 2 sons. Both boys are interested in music.

Why should I take my amp to
Amplifiers Plus?

There are many places to take electronics for repair. Small do-it-all TV, radio and CD player repair places, music retail stores with repair shops, your friend who has fixed a couple of things, independent repair stores, etc.
What is the best option?
For any guitar and bass amp, you want someone who knows at least 2 things; how to troubleshoot and repair a problem, and how your amp should sound when it is working right.
Rich has repaired over 30,000 amps since starting Amplifiers Plus in 1991, and was repairing friend's amps before that. Most repairs have been completed without using any service info, such as schematics. Just knowing how something should work is really important. Listening to the customer and understanding what they say is wrong with the amp. Trying to find the problem, even if it does not show up right away. Consulting with the customer to be sure the problem is corrected. And when a repair gets complicated, Rich has a full shelf of repair information, as well as documents on-line. Most of the vintage Fender info is now in Rich's head, from looking at a lot of older Fender gear. Marshall as well.
Amplifiers Plus offers a full 6 month warranty on the repair completed. Rich stands behind his service. The repair prices are fair.
